LYNCHBURG, Va. — Tre Stewart delivered a standout performance, accumulating 232 rushing yards and crossing the end zone four times, leading Jacksonville State to a 31-21 triumph over Liberty on Wednesday night. This victory marked Jacksonville State’s fifth consecutive win.

With this result, Jacksonville State (5-3, 4-0 in Conference USA) halted Liberty’s impressive home winning streak at 12 games, the fifth-longest in the nation. Liberty (5-2, 3-2) now finds itself on a two-game losing streak, a concerning development for the team as it is the first time they have dropped consecutive games since the close of the 2022 season, cutting their previous streak of 17 regular-season victories.

In a display of remarkable skill, Stewart has now scored 12 touchdowns in his last four games. Additionally, Geimere Latimer contributed significantly to the defense with an interception that marked Jacksonville State’s 14th turnover acquisition over the past four matchups.

As the game unfolded, Liberty was trailing 24-21 and opted to go for it on a critical fourth-and-1 at Jacksonville State’s 17-yard line. However, a bobbled snap by quarterback Kaidon Salter left them short of the necessary yards with only 5:39 on the clock.

Following the turnover, Jacksonville State’s Samario Rudolph delivered a solid 55-yard punt. Liberty took possession deep in their territory at the 6-yard line with just 3:33 remaining. Unfortunately for them, their offense was thwarted as Latimer intercepted a pass intended for the sidelines and swiftly returned it to the 1-yard line, setting up Stewart for the finishing touchdown.

Throughout the game, Jacksonville State dominated on the ground, amassing 363 rushing yards—marking the fourth consecutive game where they surpassed the 300-yard threshold. Stewart’s impressive 190 yards in the first half placed him third on the program’s all-time single-game rushing list, behind Troymaine Pope’s 250 yards and Kory Chapman’s 298 yards.

In addition to Stewart’s exploits, Jacksonville State quarterback Tyler Huff contributed with 95 passing yards and an impressive 130 rushing yards on 20 carries. Liberty’s Salter was intercepted for only the third time this season, while running back Quinton Cooley rushed for 133 yards and secured a touchdown.

Overall, the match showcased Jacksonville State’s offensive prowess and resilience, while Liberty will seek to regroup and address its recent challenges in the coming weeks.
