Home Delivery of Recreational Marijuana Set to Launch in Arizona

PHOENIX — Beginning Friday, residents of Arizona will finally have the opportunity to receive recreational cannabis at their homes. This marks a significant development in the state’s cannabis program, which previously permitted home delivery exclusively for medical marijuana users.

The Arizona Department of Health Services is rolling out this home delivery service to anyone aged 21 and over. Consumers can expect deliveries either directly from licensed dispensaries or through third-party services that partner with these dispensaries to legally distribute the products.

Recreational cannabis sales were initiated in Arizona in 2021, following a voter-approved measure that had gained approval in the fall of 2020. This was a notable turnaround from a similar proposal that was narrowly rejected by voters four years earlier. However, the state has allowed medical marijuana since 2010.

The legalization led to a surge in sales, which exceeded $1 billion in 2023. Leaders within the Arizona Dispensaries Association have expressed optimism that this new delivery initiative will broaden access for residents throughout the state.

Ann Torrez, the executive director of the association, expressed her enthusiasm for the department of health’s strategic planning and effective implementation that enabled this significant milestone to be achieved more rapidly than anticipated. She shared these sentiments during an interview with a local television station.
