SAO PAULO — This weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix will see a delayed arrival for Fernando Alonso. The seasoned driver is undergoing treatment for an intestinal infection in Europe, as announced by his team, Aston Martin, on Wednesday.

Although the 43-year-old Spaniard will miss the media engagements scheduled for Thursday, Aston Martin has confirmed that he will be ready to compete at Interlagos.

Alonso, a two-time Formula One champion, experienced health issues just prior to last weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix, which led to his decision to return to Europe for specialized medical care. Aston Martin stated that the additional treatment time has postponed his travel to Brazil, but it is a necessary step to ensure he is fit for racing.

Felipe Drugovich, hailing from Brazil, is the team’s reserve driver and is on standby. Last week in Mexico, Alonso’s race ended early due to debris causing issues with his brake duct, which contributed to his retirement from the event.

Currently, Alonso sits in ninth place in the drivers’ championship standings with a total of 62 points, looking to improve his position in the upcoming race.
