BUENOS AIRES — Atletico Mineiro of Brazil has successfully advanced to the Copa Libertadores final for the second time, following a 0-0 draw against Argentina’s River Plate on Tuesday.
Despite the electric atmosphere created by over 80,000 fans at the Monumental de Nunez Stadium, the Brazilian squad remained unfazed and managed to create several clear scoring opportunities throughout the match.
In the first leg of the semifinal, Atletico Mineiro had already established a strong position by defeating River Plate 3-0, giving them a significant advantage heading into the second leg.
The opponent for Atletico in the final will be determined on Wednesday, with strong indications that it will be Botafogo, another Brazilian club. Botafogo holds a commanding lead after their first match, winning 5-0 against Uruguay’s Penarol.
Over the past five years, Brazilian teams have dominated the tournament, securing victory each year, which adds to the heightened expectations for yet another Brazilian showdown in the final.
The highly anticipated final match is scheduled to take place on November 30 at the Monumental de Nunez Stadium in Buenos Aires, where the two teams will battle for the prestigious title.
