In a surprising incident during Game 4 of the World Series, a spectator was removed from Yankee Stadium for forcibly taking a foul ball from the glove of Mookie Betts, the right fielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers, on Tuesday evening.
Betts had made an impressive leap at the foul territory wall to catch a pop fly hit by Gleyber Torres in the first inning. However, a fan in a gray Yankees jersey sitting in the front row interfered by grabbing Betts’ glove and wrenching the ball free, leading to Torres being ruled out due to fan interference.
This incident marked the second occurrence in the World Series where Torres’ at-bat was adversely affected by fan interference. Earlier in the series, during the ninth inning of Game 1 held at Dodger Stadium, Torres hit a fly ball to left field that was caught by a fan who reached over the barrier. Despite the interference, he was awarded a double for that play.
As for the game’s progress, the Dodgers took an early lead with Freddie Freeman’s two-run home run in the first inning, putting them ahead 2-0. With this win, they are now just one victory away from clinching their second championship title in five years.
