NEW YORK – Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, was taken into custody in New York City on Tuesday due to alleged parole violations related to his previous sentencing in a racketeering case that occurred a few years back.
The musician was scheduled to appear in front of the federal judge who originally sentenced him in December 2019 later that afternoon.
His two-year sentence was a result of his guilty plea to charges claiming he was involved in and led violent activities associated with the gang known as Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods.
On Tuesday, he was arrested at the Manhattan federal courthouse based on a warrant issued by Judge Paul A. Engelmayer.
At this time, 6ix9ine’s legal representatives have not provided any comments regarding the case.
Judge Engelmayer noted in an official court order regarding the rapper’s previous case that he would be formally arraigned for breaching the terms of his supervised release.
Earlier this year, the rapper faced legal troubles in the Dominican Republic, where he was arrested on domestic violence allegations.
In addition, he was apprehended again in October 2023 for reportedly assaulting a local music producer.
His attorney, Waldo Pimentel, has previously accused Dominican Republic prosecutors of “fabricating” evidence against 6ix9ine in January.
As these legal challenges continue to unfold, the future of the rapper remains uncertain.
