The man who bought Alex Murdaugh’s infamous Moselle estate has made a startling claim: he uncovered evidence that he believes proves the disgraced South Carolina lawyer’s innocence. Alexander Wallace Blair, who purchased the 21-acre property in Islandton, SC, at auction for $1 million in February 2024, has been renovating the home where Murdaugh was convicted of murdering his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul.
Blair asserts that the estate’s kennel, included in his purchase, holds crucial physical evidence from the June 2021 crime. Despite dismantling the structure, Blair preserved the kennel’s door and window, which still bear bullet holes from the tragic night. Examining the scene, Blair suggested that Murdaugh, a “big man,” could not have physically positioned himself to fire the shots in the way described in court.
“I don’t think he did it,” Blair told Realtor.com, adding, “Maybe it was karma for other things, but I don’t think he killed them.”
Neighbors and Local Sentiment Add Fuel to Doubts
Blair, originally from Rock Hill, over 150 miles away, shared that his new neighbors in Lockland also doubt Murdaugh’s guilt. He said, “Everyone on that road is like, ‘No.’”
Blair plans to transform the estate into a “secondary residence” and shake off its dark reputation. “Bad things have happened on every property,” he said, noting South Carolina’s notorious past. Blair hopes to shift the narrative, installing a pond, horse fences, and renovating the house “roof to subfloor” to bring new life to the property.
Meanwhile, Murdaugh remains in prison, serving two life sentences for the murders, alongside additional decades-long sentences for financial crimes.
