Moscow, Idaho — In a thrilling matchup on Saturday night, Deshaun Buchanan demonstrated his skills by rushing for 116 yards and scoring two touchdowns, helping the Idaho Vandals secure a 38-28 victory over Eastern Washington.
Buchanan made a significant contribution late in the third quarter when he rushed for a 1-yard touchdown increase Idaho’s lead to 24-13. Just over five minutes remained in the game when he found the end zone again with a 12-yard run, pushing the score to 38-21.
Idaho (6-3, 3-2 in the Big Sky Conference) took control of the game early in the second quarter, seizing a 13-7 advantage when quarterback Jack Layne connected with Jordan Dwyer for a 15-yard touchdown pass.
Layne completed 17 of 28 passes, amassing 235 yards along with two touchdown throws. His key target, Dwyer, recorded four receptions for 78 yards. Additionally, Alex Moore also contributed with a touchdown reception.
For Eastern Washington (2-6, 1-3), Kekoa Visperas connected on 11 of 14 passes for 156 yards and also scored a touchdown on a 1-yard rush. In the fourth quarter, Jared Taylor entered the game and completed 3 of 4 passes, two of which resulted in touchdowns, bringing the Eagles within 31-21.
The scoring for Eastern Washington concluded with Michael Wortham’s impressive 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, occurring with about five minutes left in the game. With this victory, Idaho has now claimed three consecutive wins in this series, showcasing their strength in Big Sky Conference play.
