Lindgren and Cuylle net goals in the third as Rangers edge out Ducks 2-1

NEW YORK — The New York Rangers secured a 2-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night, thanks to third-period goals from Ryan Lindgren and Will Cuylle.

Jonathan Quick was instrumental for the Rangers, making 30 saves while helping the team rebound from a recent home loss against the Florida Panthers, the reigning champions. This win marked the seventh point earned in their last eight games, bringing their record to 6-1-1.

Olen Zellweger managed to find the net for the Ducks, while their goaltender Lukas Dostal recorded 30 saves. The Ducks continued to struggle, experiencing their third loss in four outings.

Lindgren broke the deadlock just 4:13 into the third period, scoring from the slot and marking his first goal of the season, as well as the 11th of his career across 336 games. Cuylle followed up with another score amidst a scramble in front of the net with just over eight minutes remaining, pushing the lead to 2-0. However, Zellweger’s goal cut Quick’s shutout short just 1:45 later.

Takeaway observations reveal that the Rangers have improved to a 2-1-1 home record while remaining perfect with a 4-0-0 mark on the road.

A turning point in the match came when Quick, now holding 395 career wins, showcased his talent with an impressive glove save against Ducks forward Mason McTavish with 4:40 left in the second period, which preserved the scoreless status at that time. Quick denied McTavish again shortly after and made additional crucial stops in the final moments to clinch the win.

Key statistics included Artemi Panarin, who not only led the Rangers last season with 120 points, including 49 goals, but also extended his current eight-game point streak. Panarin now leads the team with six goals and a total of 15 points this season. Additionally, Alexis Lafreniere contributed a primary assist on Lindgren’s goal, increasing his tally to four assists and eight points.

Looking ahead, the Ducks are set to face off against New Jersey on Sunday, while the Rangers will visit Washington on Tuesday.
