Inter Miami’s defender Ian Fray is set to have surgery to address a meniscus injury he sustained during the first match of the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series against Atlanta United, the team announced on Saturday.
Fray, just 22 years old and a native of South Florida, has previously battled and recovered from three ACL tears throughout his career. He entered the match as a substitute in the second half and unfortunately sustained the injury during the final moments of Inter Miami’s 2-1 victory on Friday night.
While the team has not disclosed the full extent of Fray’s meniscus injury, the need for surgery implies he is likely to be sidelined for the rest of the season — which could extend until December 7, provided Inter Miami advances to the MLS Cup final.
The second match of the best-of-three series against Atlanta is slated for November 2 in Atlanta. If required, the third game will take place in Fort Lauderdale on November 9.
