AMSTERDAM — A newborn who was taken from a maternity ward in a hospital located in the Paris region earlier this week has been located in a hotel in Amsterdam, as confirmed by the police in the Dutch capital on Friday.
Authorities in Amsterdam have been relatively sparse with information, noting that the investigation is being handled primarily by French law enforcement officials. They verified that the infant is named Santiago, a name publicized by Paris police when they issued a call for assistance in locating him.
“Following an international search warrant, we apprehended a man and a woman at a hotel in central Amsterdam today on charges of kidnapping their prematurely born child,” police reported on X. “The infant is presently receiving the necessary medical care at a hospital.”
French officials indicated that Santiago was just 17 days old at the time of his abduction and emphasized the child’s need for ongoing medical attention. They described him as having blonde hair and mentioned that he was wearing white velvet pajamas paired with an oversized brown T-shirt at the time he was taken late Monday night from the hospital in the Seine-Saint-Denis area, which is situated in the northern part of Paris.
The police alert that was issued outlined the investigation’s leading suspects as the baby’s 23-year-old father and 25-year-old mother, and it included photographs of both individuals.
