MANCHESTER, England — Manchester United winger Antony is currently undergoing evaluation by medical professionals due to a left leg injury sustained during the match against Fenerbahce in the Europa League.
The Brazilian player was seen leaving the Ulker Stadium in Istanbul on crutches and sporting a protective boot after Thursday night’s encounter.
United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, mentioned that a complete assessment of the injury’s seriousness would take approximately 24 hours.
“It’s truly unfortunate for him,” Ten Hag commented on Friday. “I genuinely feel for him, especially considering the effort he has been putting in during his training sessions.”
Antony made his entrance as a substitute in the 73rd minute of the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, but he was carried off on a stretcher in the 89th minute after he collapsed on the ground, clutching his left leg.
Since joining Manchester United from Ajax in 2022 for a reported fee of $95 million, the forward has experienced limited playtime this season, with just one starting appearance and four coming off the bench.
Looking ahead, Manchester United is set to face West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday. Captain Bruno Fernandes will return for this match after serving a suspension that kept him from participating in the game against Fenerbahce.
