League maintains decision requiring PSG to compensate Mbappé $60 million

PARIS — The appeals commission for the French league has confirmed the ruling that mandates Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to pay Kylian Mbappé €55 million (approximately $60 million) in outstanding wages. This announcement was made on Friday by the league’s governing body.

Last month, the legal commission of the LFP ruled in favor of Mbappé, but PSG challenged this decision, claiming they did not owe him any money. Following further hearings on October 15, the commission reaffirmed its previous verdict.

“The club must fulfill the payment of the salary portions that Mbappé is requesting,” stated the LFP. They clarified that this decision is final, though it could potentially be taken up by the executive committee of the French Football Federation (FFF).

Mbappé had turned down an offer for mediation from the commission regarding his claims against PSG, asserting that the club owed him three months’ wages along with the remaining portion of a loyalty bonus.

The star forward made a transfer to Real Madrid this summer on a free deal, after having set a club record with 256 goals over his seven years with PSG.

PSG maintained that there was an unwritten agreement following Mbappé’s sidelining at the start of the 2023-24 season, after he opted not to extend his contract. Allegedly, the player had consented to forfeit certain bonuses to facilitate his return to the team.

Tensions marred Mbappé’s tenure at PSG, culminating in his final home match at Parc des Princes, during which he faced hostility from some fans. As he embarks on his journey with Real Madrid, the French international has already netted eight goals in 13 games, gearing up for a highly anticipated clash against rivals Barcelona on Saturday.
