INGLEWOOD, California – The head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, Sean McVay, has expressed his confidence that star wide receiver Cooper Kupp will remain with the team.
McVay took issue with recent media discussions about the potential trade of Kupp following his return from an injury, which coincided with the Rams’ 30-20 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night.
“A lot of the rumors circulating were simply that—speculation,” McVay stated. “I am thrilled to have Cooper Kupp back on our roster, and my expectation is for him to stay here.”
This past week, Kupp’s name had been tied to numerous trade rumors as he approached his return after missing four games due to an ankle injury.
He made a significant impact during the game against the Vikings, recording five receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown, helping the Rams achieve their second win in just five days, now holding a record of 3-4 and climbing back into playoff contention within the NFC West.
With the Rams appearing more competitive, McVay indicated that a trade of their leading receiver has become less probable.
While he acknowledged interest from other teams, McVay expressed disappointment over the inaccuracies surrounding Kupp’s situation. “Several teams have contacted us,” McVay mentioned. “However, many of the claims being circulated are simply false. We’ve had conversations with those involved and clarified the situation to them. Unfortunately, there’s a significant amount of misinformation that lacks accountability.”
During the brief preparation period leading up to the game, Kupp shared his thoughts on the trade rumors, stating he chose to disregard the outside chatter.
Following a strong performance that included several crucial plays against Minnesota, Kupp made it clear he was focused on his current role with the team. “While there was plenty of noise around the trade talk, I tried to zone in on my responsibilities, especially during this short week for preparation,” Kupp said. “It forced me to stay present and commit to my preparation so I could perform my best.”
In the game against Minnesota, Kupp caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Matthew Stafford in the second quarter and later secured a vital 27-yard reception for a first down late in the fourth quarter, sealing the Rams’ victory.
Having spent his entire eight-season career with the Rams, Kupp has only participated in 24 of the team’s last 41 games due to injury setbacks since his outstanding performance contributed to their championship win during the 2021-22 season.
In that standout season, Kupp amassed an impressive 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns.
He is currently under a three-year contract extension, with two years remaining worth approximately $80 million.
