LAS VEGAS — The Vegas Golden Knights have officially named defenseman Shea Theodore as their highest-paid player, finalizing a significant seven-year contract that averages $7.425 million annually.

This new deal places Theodore’s value slightly above that of fellow defenseman Noah Hanifin, who signed an eight-year extension worth $7.35 million per year in April, shortly after joining the team from the Calgary Flames.

At 29 years old, Theodore is now in his eighth season with the Golden Knights. He currently leads the team’s defensemen with seven points through the first six games of the season and holds the record for the most points by a defenseman in the franchise’s history, totaling 296. Additionally, Theodore boasts a career plus-65 rating with Vegas.

Sealing this deal with Theodore addresses a significant question mark regarding the team’s roster, as he would have entered free agency at the end of the season.

“I’m excited to be here another seven years and really solidify this place as home,” Theodore stated in a video shared on the team’s X account.

This contract extension highlights the Golden Knights’ commitment to retaining key players as they navigate the current season and work towards future success.
