NEW ORLEANS — Zion Williamson, the power forward for the Pelicans, will not participate in the team’s season opener against the Chicago Bulls scheduled for Wednesday night.
The head coach, Willie Green, announced that Williamson is unwell and will not be present for the game.
Despite this setback, Green expressed optimism that Williamson will return to the squad when the Pelicans kick off their four-game West Coast trip, starting in Portland on October 25.
Williamson, who stands 6 feet 6 inches tall, was the first overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft after an impressive career at Duke.
Last season, he demonstrated his scoring ability with an average of 22.9 points per game while appearing in a personal best of 70 games.
Nonetheless, his career has been marred by injuries, leading to him missing a staggering 206 regular season games thus far.
In the 184 games he has managed to play, he has showcased his talent by averaging 24.7 points per game.
