CHAMBLEE, Georgia — A police officer fatally shot a man during an arrest attempt when the individual allegedly brandished a firearm.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Chamblee, roughly 15 miles northeast of Atlanta, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The man, identified as 59-year-old Terrell Laron Hoggro, sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to a hospital.

Law enforcement officials were executing an arrest warrant for Hoggro due to serious charges, including kidnapping, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and various weapons offenses linked to two armed robberies that took place in Lawrenceville the prior week.

As officers approached Hoggro when he exited his hotel room at a local Quality Inn, they reported that he drew a handgun from his waistband and raised it. This prompted a responding officer from the Lawrenceville Police Department to open fire, striking Hoggro.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently conducting an inquiry into the shooting incident, while the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office will determine if any charges will be filed against the officers involved.
