Linebacker Devin White Joins Houston Texans
On Wednesday, linebacker Devin White, a former Pro Bowl player, officially joined the Houston Texans. White’s addition to the team comes after a challenging stint with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he had signed a one-year deal in the offseason.
Despite his contract with the Eagles, White did not see any game action. He was declared inactive for the initial four games of the season and missed the fifth game due to personal issues, leading to his release earlier this month.
White entered the NFL as the fifth overall selection in the 2019 draft, playing five seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before his time with the Eagles. During his tenure with Tampa Bay, he started 75 games and made a significant impact on defense with a total of 364 solo tackles, 23 sacks, six forced fumbles, and nine fumble recoveries. His standout performance came in the 2021 season, which earned him a Pro Bowl selection; he registered 87 solo tackles, 3½ sacks, and one fumble recovery that year while starting in every game.
The Texans are in need of added depth at the linebacker position due to ongoing injuries affecting Azeez Al-Shaair, who is dealing with a knee issue, and Henry To’oTo’o, who is recovering from a concussion. White’s experience and capabilities could prove valuable as the team navigates their lineup challenges.
