FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is currently managing a hamstring injury in addition to existing ankle and knee concerns, but is anticipated to suit up for the game against New England this Sunday.

Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich provided an update on Wednesday, indicating that Rodgers, now 40 years old, would be designated as limited during the team’s walkthrough sessions.

“This is a new issue that appeared during our last game,” Ulbrich stated regarding the hamstring injury. “The plan is to monitor it throughout the week, and he’s going to put in his usual effort to treat it effectively. I don’t expect this to hinder his playing status.”

Despite expressing that he feels “banged up” in recent weeks, Rodgers was seen reaching for the back of his left leg following a play during the Jets’ recent loss in Pittsburgh. Ulbrich mentioned that these injuries may have impacted Rodgers’ ability to utilize his scrambling skills against the Steelers.

“There were several instances where he usually would escape and leverage his mobility,” said Ulbrich. “Historically, he has been among the more agile quarterbacks in the league, so this is certainly a factor.”

Rodgers, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon just four snaps into the season opener last year, is currently facing one of the most challenging statistical starts of his long 20-year career in the NFL. With 10 touchdown passes against seven interceptions, his performance is falling short, just six interceptions shy of his career high reached in 2008.

The team’s offensive performance has been inconsistent throughout the season, prompting Ulbrich to demote offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett from play-calling duties, replacing him with passing game coordinator Todd Downing. The Jets currently rank 23rd in total offense and a staggering 31st in rushing.

Rodgers is not the only player dealing with injuries as the team prepares for the week ahead. Offensive lineman Xavier Newman was recently placed on injured reserve after sustaining a neck injury in Pittsburgh, requiring a hospital visit. Thankfully, tests showed no severe damage, and he was able to return with the team post-game. Ulbrich confirmed that Newman is recovering but will need a few weeks off.

“It was a frightening moment during the game, but we are grateful that he is in a good condition now,” Ulbrich commented. “The support from the team has been tremendous; everyone felt for him, and seeing him on the plane after the game was a true blessing.”

In response to the injury, the Jets have signed safety Jalen Mills from the practice squad to fill Newman’s position on the active roster, providing much-needed depth at safety. The team is also dealing with injuries to Chuck Clark (who is on IR), Tony Adams (hamstring), and Ashtyn Davis (concussion protocol).

Right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker (ankle) is not expected to practice, while defensive tackle Leki Fotu (knee) also remains sidelined. Ulbrich added that right tackle Morgan Moses (knee), wide receiver Allen Lazard (chest), and linebacker Quincy Williams (neck) would be limited in practice.

On a brighter note, cornerbacks D.J. Reed (groin) and Michael Carter (back) are returning to practice after time off due to injuries. The practice window for tight end Kenny Yeboah, who is on IR with an abdominal injury, has opened. The Jets have a 21-day period to activate him, or he will be moved to season-ending IR.
