The Boston Celtics have officially celebrated their latest championship by raising Banner 18 in the TD Garden.
This historic event took place on Tuesday night, coinciding with the highly anticipated season opener against the New York Knicks.
As part of the festivities, players were honored with their championship rings, marking a significant moment for the storied franchise.
The energy in the sold-out arena was electric as fans settled into their seats, eager to witness the special pre-game ceremony.
Players donned unique warm-up jackets adorned with gold trim and embroidered with images of the 18 championship trophies the team has earned over the years.
Many players took a moment during their shooting practice to reflect on a video presentation that chronicled their playoff journey, showcasing pivotal moments from drafting Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum to the recent additions of Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis.
Another touching video tribute highlighted the legendary careers of past Celtics greats, including John Havlicek and Bill Russell, who won titles in the 1950s and 60s, culminating in highlights from the thrilling Game 5 victory against the Dallas Mavericks last spring.
The ceremony also featured appearances by Celtics legends, including six-time champion Bob Cousy, who arrived in a wheelchair, followed by fellow icons Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen.
The atmosphere reached a crescendo as the 2024 championship banner was unveiled, joining the banner from 2008 in the rafters, symbolizing Boston’s enduring legacy in the NBA.
In a show of local pride, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey designated Tuesday as “Celtics Banner 18 Day,” further solidifying the significance of the occasion for fans and the community alike.
