PSG supporters boo message urging them to refrain from discriminatory chants

PARIS — Prior to the Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday, a segment of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) supporters vocally disrupted the announcement reiterating that any form of discriminatory chants would not be tolerated. This incident occurred amid rising scrutiny over fan behavior during recent games.

Recently, PSG has faced scrutiny and the possibility of disciplinary measures after homophobic chants directed at their traditional rivals, Marseille, were heard during last Saturday’s match against Strasbourg at Parc des Princes. Despite efforts from the stadium announcer to quell the offensive chanting, their calls for restraint were met with jeers from the crowd.

The disciplinary committee of the league is currently reviewing footage and testimonials from that specific game, and their decision is anticipated to be revealed next week.

In response to the homophobic chants during the Strasbourg match, PSG emphasized its firm stance against any kind of discrimination, including homophobia. The club stated, “Paris Saint-Germain reaffirms its commitment against all forms of discrimination, including homophobia. We implement all necessary measures both before and during matches to uphold the Parc des Princes as an inclusive environment for everyone.”

PSG is scheduled to face Marseille at Stade Vélodrome on Sunday, a match that is likely to heighten tensions and focus on the behavior of the fans.
