An explosion occurred early Tuesday morning in a Lehi, Utah apartment, resulting in injuries to two residents and necessitating the temporary evacuation of 90 families from the building due to damage to the sprinkler system. According to local officials, the incident is currently being treated as “suspicious.”
The blast took place shortly after 4 a.m., as stated by spokesperson Jeanteil Livingston. The couple residing in the affected apartment sustained minor injuries, which were treated on-site; fortunately, no additional injuries were reported from other residents.
The explosion caused significant damage within the apartment and also affected the building’s fire sprinkler system, leading to water damage in that unit and several others located below it. This situation prompted the relocation of 90 families living within the Lehi Tech Apartments, as repairs to the water system and restoration efforts are underway. The duration of these repairs remains uncertain.
Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the explosion, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Lehi, home to approximately 95,000 residents, sits between Salt Lake City and Provo.
