Las Palmas triumph in Valencia amid protests from local fans against Singaporean owner

Thousands of supporters of Valencia CF gathered to express their discontent with club owner Peter Lim, coinciding with a disappointing 3-2 defeat against Las Palmas in La Liga on Monday.
The protests were fueled by the recent detention of two fans in Singapore, Lim’s home country, who were reportedly taken into custody after openly displaying anti-Lim signs during a demonstration almost three weeks prior.

Fans have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with Lim’s management of the team, a sentiment that has grown since he acquired the club in 2014.
Frustration has been directed towards what supporters describe as his distant ownership style, and many rallied outside the Mestalla Stadium prior to the match in a show of protest.
After the game, which left Valencia languishing at the bottom of La Liga with only one victory from ten matches, additional fans returned to continue the demonstration.

The match itself started positively for Valencia, with Pepelu converting a penalty just 14 minutes in, giving the home side an early lead.
However, Las Palmas responded three minutes before halftime, equalizing through Alex Muñoz.
The visitors then took the lead in the second half when Fábio Silva, who is on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, scored just seven minutes after the break.

Valencia’s situation worsened when Pepelu was shown a red card for an off-the-ball incident at the 69-minute mark, further complicating their efforts to regain control of the game.
Las Palmas then added a third goal courtesy of Alberto Moleiro shortly afterwards.
Though César Tárrega managed to pull one back for Valencia in stoppage time, it was insufficient to change the outcome.
The victory marked Las Palmas’ first win of the season and their first in La Liga since February, allowing them to surpass Valencia on goal difference and escape the bottom of the standings.
