BOCHUM, Germany — The Bundesliga club Bochum, currently sitting at the bottom of the standings, has decided to part ways with head coach Peter Zeidler after a disappointing start to the season.
The decision was made public late Sunday evening, citing a lack of confidence in the coaching duo’s ability to steer the team away from the threat of relegation. Alongside Zeidler, sporting director Marc Lettau has also been relieved of his duties.
Zeidler, who took over as coach in June, has had a challenging time, recording six losses out of seven Bundesliga matches during his tenure. His team’s only achievement was a draw against Holstein Kiel, who are also struggling to secure a win, and a 3-1 defeat against Hoffenheim during his final match. The squad also faced an early exit from the German Cup at the hands of second-division team Jahn Regensburg.
Inheritably, Zeidler stepped into a difficult situation, as Bochum narrowly avoided relegation last season by winning a penalty shootout in the relegation playoffs. His inexperience in the Bundesliga made the task even more daunting.
As of now, Bochum has not announced a replacement for Zeidler. The new coach will face an uphill battle, as the team’s upcoming fixtures include games against formidable opponents such as Bayern Munich this Sunday, followed by matches against Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen, and Stuttgart.
