The Orlando Pride experienced a setback on Sunday in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), conceding three goals for the first time this season and losing 3-1 to Gotham FC.

Host Gotham (16-4-5) saw contributions from Sam Hiatt, Rose Lavelle, and Ella Stevens, who all found the back of the net.

After beginning their season with an impressive record of 23 games unbeaten, the Pride (17-2-6) are now on a two-game losing streak.

Despite this recent dip, Orlando has already clinched the NWSL Shield, ensuring their position as the top seed heading into the playoffs.

In the match, Gotham initiated the scoring in the 13th minute when Stevens headed in a corner kick that Hiatt had last touched, sending the ball into the near post.

The Pride equalized in the 31st minute with Adriana converting a penalty kick into the right corner after Barbra Banda was fouled in the box.

However, Gotham regained the lead just before halftime when Lavelle scored from inside the box after a failed clearance from the Pride.

In the 49th minute, Lavelle assisted on a goal scored by Stevens, who found the net after an excellent setup in front of goal.

Both Stevens and Lavelle are enjoying standout seasons, each reaching a career-high of seven goals.

After the match, Gotham honored Kelley O’Hara, who had announced her retirement earlier in the season. The ceremony was attended by several prominent teammates from the U.S. women’s national team, including Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, and Ali Krieger.

In other league action, the Washington Spirit triumphed over the Chicago Red Stars with a score of 2-0, with Heather Stainbrook marking her first professional goal.

This win at home was the Spirit’s tenth of the season, which ties them for the most home wins in league history.

Stainbrook capitalized on a cross from Tara McKeown in the 31st minute, scoring from a tight angle on the back post.

A red card situation in the 72nd minute resulted in both teams finishing the match with ten players after Rosemonde Kouassi and Ludmila were ejected due to a scuffle on the field.

Trinity Rodman, returning from injury, played a pivotal role in the Spirit’s second goal in the 83rd minute after intercepting a pass and creating a scoring opportunity for Makenna Morris, who netted from close range. Morris has now scored five goals this season, while Alyssa Naeher made an impressive ten saves for the Red Stars (10-13-2).

In another match, Angel City and the Utah Royals played to a 1-1 draw, highlighted by Claudia Zornoza’s goal scored on her 34th birthday.

Zornoza found the net with a direct free kick from roughly 25 yards in the 21st minute.

Since joining Utah (7-14-4) in August, she has recorded two goals and three assists.

Angel City (7-12-6) leveled the score in the 57th minute when Sydney Leroux scored her seventh goal of the season with a volley from the top of the box.

Eighteen-year-old Giselle Thompson provided her first assist in the NWSL during this play.

Despite the Royals still managing 21 shots during the match, Didi Haracic made nine saves for Angel City to help secure the draw.
