INGLEWOOD, Calif. — In a recent game against the Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell suffered a hand injury during the first quarter and subsequently left the field for medical evaluation.
O’Connell’s injury appeared to occur when his hand collided with that of Rams safety Kam Curl while he attempted a long throw. This play resulted in a penalty for intentional grounding against the Raiders.
After initially returning to the Raiders’ sideline and taking a brief rest, O’Connell decided to head to the locker room for further assessment. During his time on the field, he completed 6 of 10 passes for a total of 52 yards across the team’s first two offensive drives.
Taking over for O’Connell, Gardner Minshew stepped in as the quarterback for the Raiders’ third offensive possession. Minshew previously started the season as the team’s initial quarterback but was benched in favor of O’Connell earlier in the month.
Throughout this season, O’Connell has accumulated 403 passing yards, along with two touchdowns and two interceptions, while participating in segments of three games. As a rookie last season, he held the starting quarterback position during the latter half of the year.
