PARIS
Lyon secured their fifth consecutive victory across all competitions with an impressive 4-0 triumph over Le Havre, propelling them to seventh in the French league standings on Sunday.
Brazilian left back Abner Vinicius initiated the scoring in the 31st minute when he capitalized on a defensive clearance from Le Havre.
The team’s offensive efforts continued in the second half as winger Malick Fofana, seasoned striker Alexandre Lacazette, and winger Saïd Benrahma all found the net, marking a total of 14 goals for Lyon in their past five matches.
Later in the day, Marseille faced a crucial game against Montpellier, needing a victory to remain just three points shy of Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco in the league table.
Sixth-placed Reims faced a setback, losing 2-1 to Auxerre. Goals from central defender Sinaly Diomandé and midfielder Hamed Traoré put the home side ahead, while Japan winger Keito Nakamura managed to pull one back in stoppage time.
Eighth-placed Nice salvaged a 1-1 draw against Nantes, with forward Evann Guessand equalizing in the 72nd minute, shortly after Matthis Abline had given Nantes the lead.
A similar matchup from the previous season was marred by tragedy, as a Nantes fan was fatally stabbed before the game, following altercations near a train station.
In a lower-table clash, Toulouse and Angers ended in a 1-1 stalemate. Norway’s Joshua King scored for Toulouse in the second half after Angers’ striker Ibrahima Niane had opened the scoring early in the match.
Currently, PSG sits at the top of the league due to a superior goal difference over Monaco. Both teams remain unbeaten, each accumulating 20 points over eight matches.
PSG triumphed over Strasbourg with a score of 4-2 in a match that was overshadowed by homophobic chanting directed at rival Marseille by a section of PSG fans, particularly targeting former player Adrien Rabiot.
Next Sunday, Marseille will host PSG in a highly anticipated matchup.
