Canine costume showcase: Dogs in stylish attire at NYC’s yearly Halloween celebration

NEW YORK — The annual Halloween Dog Parade held in Tompkins Square Park showcased an array of beautifully costumed dogs, decked out in bow ties, colorful wigs, and stylish sunglasses.
This festive event took place in New York City’s East Village, attracting a huge crowd of spectators on Saturday, all eager to see the pooches strut their stuff in elaborate Halloween get-ups as they walked or rode along Avenue A.
Among the adorable participants was a small dog struggling to fit into an oversized yellow suit jacket, while another canine donned a snazzy pompadour hairstyle and drove a miniature hot rod reminiscent of the classic film “Grease.”
Additionally, there were a couple of pups dressed as hot dogs, and one even channeled Glinda, the good witch from “The Wizard of Oz.”
This beloved event, established 34 years ago, was originally organized to raise funds for the dog run in Tompkins Square Park, which is noted as the city’s first and most extensive dog run.
