Harris to team up with the Obamas for campaign events in Georgia and Michigan later this month

WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris is set to embark on her initial campaign events alongside former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, both of whom hold significant appeal within the Democratic Party. This month, Harris will participate in get-out-the-vote initiatives in Georgia and Michigan, marking Michelle Obama’s first appearance campaigning for Harris.

The Democratic presidential nominee is scheduled to join Barack Obama in Georgia on October 24 and then team up with Michelle Obama in Michigan on October 26, as confirmed by a senior official from Harris’s campaign who requested anonymity due to the events not being officially publicized yet.

Details about the specific cities for these events have not been revealed. Recently, Barack Obama campaigned in Pittsburgh for Harris and has planned appearances in Arizona and Nevada this coming weekend, followed by visits to Wisconsin and Michigan next week.

In Michigan, early voting commences on October 26th. During this time, Harris and Michelle Obama are expected to motivate supporters to cast their votes promptly, according to the campaign official.

Meanwhile, in Georgia, early voting began this past Tuesday, and the state witnessed a record-breaking turnout of over 310,000 voters on the first day.

The Obamas expressed their support for Harris in July and participated in the Democratic National Convention held in August in Chicago. Their involvement in campaigns continues to be a driving force for fundraising and popular support at major events for Democratic candidates.

Additionally, Michelle Obama will headline a rally in Atlanta scheduled for October 29, just three days following her appearance with Harris in Michigan. This rally will include various celebrities and civic leaders and is organized by When We All Vote, a nonpartisan civic engagement initiative established by Michelle Obama in 2018. The organization focuses on mobilizing individuals who typically do not participate in politics and elections.

Celebrities who co-chair the initiative include notable figures such as NBA stars Stephen Curry and Chris Paul; musical artists Jennifer Lopez and Janelle Monáe; beauty influencer Bretman Rock; and actors Tom Hanks, Selena Gomez, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Kerry Washington.

Kamala Harris has maintained a friendship with the Obamas for two decades, having first connected with Barack Obama during his U.S. Senate campaign. She was an ardent supporter of his presidential bid in 2008, even canvassing for him in Iowa before the caucuses.
