FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Authorities are investigating a troubling case involving a 36-year-old woman and three teenage boys suspected of illegally killing over 100 deer within a 200-square-mile area in eastern Wisconsin.
This poaching spree reportedly took place between the spring of 2023 and last July, spanning Fond du Lac, Dodge, and Washington counties, as disclosed by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office in a recent announcement.
According to law enforcement, the suspects employed a spotlight to locate deer in fields at night before shooting them. Some bucks had their heads removed, and the group allegedly sought to strike deer with their vehicle on roads. Sheriff Ryan F. Waldschmidt highlighted that selfies were taken with one of the deer that had been hit and placed inside their vehicle.
“They drove to various spots with the deer still alive and in distress in the trunk or back seat, all while filming videos of their journey with the injured animals,” the sheriff elaborated in the announcement.
In addition to their actions against deer, investigators suspect the group may have also harassed other wildlife, including geese, raccoons, possums, and turtles.
The suspects reside in Campbellsport, a community located about 50 miles northwest of Milwaukee, as reported by sheriff’s officials.
Prosecutors have been notified, and charges are expected to be filed against those involved.
