FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Tory Horton, the wide receiver for Colorado State, is set to have season-ending surgery on his right knee, leaving him just 35 yards short of breaking the Mountain West record for most career receiving yards.

The injury occurred during the game against San Jose State, and the team announced the situation late Monday.

Rams head coach Jay Norvell commented on the injury stating that although it will end Horton’s season, he is expected to make a full recovery and will have the opportunity to pursue a career in the National Football League. “I am grateful for Tory’s dedication to the coaching staff and for his leadership and sacrifices made for Colorado State,” Norvell said in his statement.

Before joining Colorado State, Horton played two seasons at Nevada under Norvell. Despite facing injuries throughout the current season, he managed to contribute 26 receptions for 353 yards along with a touchdown.

Throughout his collegiate career, Horton has amassed a total of 3,615 receiving yards. The current record for the Mountain West Conference is held by Rashard Higgins of Colorado State, who set the record by accumulating 3,649 yards between 2013 and 2015.

In a statement, Horton expressed his commitment to his team, saying, “I will continue to serve as a dedicated teammate and captain, doing everything in my power to ensure this season is one to remember. I will always hold dear the memories of my time at Colorado State, wearing the green and gold.”

This turn of events marks a significant moment in the season for both Horton and the Rams as they aim to maintain their momentum and carry on in his absence.
