Villanova, PA — Eric Dixon, the standout scorer and rebounder for Villanova, is facing a one-game suspension from NCAA activities due to unauthorized participation in the Portsmouth Invitational held last April.

As a fifth-year senior, Dixon will be absent for the Wildcats’ season opener against Lafayette on November 4.

The Portsmouth Invitational is often an opportunity for college seniors to showcase their skills while exploring the possibility of moving to professional basketball. Dixon participated in this tournament while contemplating a transition to the professional league. However, after opting to return for an additional year of eligibility, a provision made possible by the pandemic, he was subsequently sanctioned with a suspension.

Turning 24 in January, Dixon had an impressive previous season, averaging 16.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He received recognition as a second-team All-Big East selection for two consecutive years.

This news comes as Villanova prepares to kick off its basketball season, and the team will need to adjust accordingly in Dixon’s absence as they strive for a successful start.
