BARCELONA, Spain — Recent evaluations have confirmed that Lamine Yamal is dealing with a left hamstring strain, which he sustained while representing Spain. The news was revealed by Barcelona on Monday.
The young talent underwent medical assessments after departing from the national team following their narrow 1-0 victory over Denmark in the Nations League on Saturday.
The Spanish Football Federation decided to send the 17-year-old winger back to his club to mitigate any further risk of injury.
Barcelona has not provided an exact timeline for Yamal’s recovery, only noting that he will be sidelined until fully healed.
The team’s next match is scheduled for Sunday at home against Sevilla in the Spanish league.
Yamal is expected to return in time for the upcoming matches against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on October 23, as well as the highly anticipated league clash against Real Madrid just three days later.
Unfortunately, he will be absent from the Nations League home match against Serbia on Tuesday. Yamal played a significant role in aiding Spain’s victory at the European Championship earlier this year.
In his stead, coach Luis de la Fuente has called up Rodrigo Riquelme from Atletico Madrid.
So far this season, Yamal has made 11 appearances and found the back of the net five times for Barcelona.
