New Jersey commuter train strikes tree, resulting in operator’s death and injuries to over a dozen passengers

A commuter train operated by New Jersey Transit collided with a fallen tree on Monday morning, resulting in the death of the train’s operator and injuring over a dozen passengers.
The incident took place shortly after 6 a.m. in Mansfield Township, just north of the Roebling Station, as confirmed by NJ Transit in an official statement. Out of the 36 individuals on board the River Line train, footage from news reports captured a significant portion of the tree lodged beneath the front of the train.
Authorities indicated that at least 16 passengers were treated for injuries that were not deemed life-threatening. Officials are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the tree being on the tracks.
In response to the accident, River Line services have been temporarily halted in both directions between the Roebling and Trenton train stations. Additionally, several nearby roadways, including segments of U.S. Highway 130, have been closed as emergency teams conduct their investigation.
