MILWAUKEE — After serving a one-game suspension, Romeo Doubs made a strong comeback by catching two of the four touchdown passes thrown by Jordan Love, leading the Green Bay Packers to a convincing 34-13 win against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
This match marked Doubs’ first touchdowns of the season as he achieved an impressive 10-yard touchdown early in the second quarter, followed by a 20-yard reception in the third. Before this game, Doubs missed the Packers’ previous match against the Los Angeles Rams due to team conduct violations after skipping two practices, making his return even more impactful.
Jordan Love showcased excellent performance by completing 22 of 32 passes for 258 yards, contributing four touchdown passes — the other two going to Jayden Reed (5 yards) and Christian Watson (44 yards). His accomplishment of four touchdown passes equaled a personal best, as he successfully connected with nine different teammates throughout the game.
The Packers (4-2) took full advantage of the Cardinals’ unusual disarray, with Arizona frequently faltering in their discipline. Known for having the fewest penalties in the league at just 3.8 per game, the Cardinals were penalized 13 times for a total of 100 yards during this contest and compounded their issues with three turnovers.
Adding to the Cardinals’ struggles, several key players suffered injuries, with rookie receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. notably leaving the game due to a concussion in the second quarter after an awkward collision with Packers linebacker Isaiah McDuffie.
Love experienced a stellar start, delivering three touchdown passes within the first 25 and a half minutes, which enabled the Packers to swiftly take a 24-0 lead. However, the Cardinals answered back, scoring 13 consecutive points, including a field goal on their first drive of the second half after scoring 10 points just before halftime.
Despite their brief resurgence, the Cardinals were unable to score again as the Packers extended their lead and secured the victory. Arizona’s Kyler Murray completed 22 of 32 passes for 214 yards, which included an 18-yard touchdown connection with Michael Wilson. In contrast, running back James Conner struggled to make an impact, hitting only 24 rushing yards on seven attempts, while the Packers outperformed the Cardinals in rushing yards, 179-89.
The game started slowly with both teams exchanging punts, but the Packers then surged ahead, scoring three touchdowns and a field goal in quick succession to seize control of the match.
Even when it seemed the Cardinals were beginning to build momentum, a crucial turn of events allowed Green Bay to regain control. After a muffed punt by Reed that would have given Arizona possession deep in Packers territory, offsetting penalties negated the turnover. The Cardinals were forced to punt again, which was met with a 39-yard return by Keisean Nixon, setting up another touchdown by Love to Watson.
Arizona’s tackle against their mounting deficit began when Murray found Wilson for a touchdown just before halftime, followed by a 38-yard field goal by Chad Ryland, closing the gap to 24-13 early in the second half. Ryland was filling in for usual kicker Matt Prater, who missed this game due to a knee injury.
From that point on, however, the Cardinals struggled. Green Bay extended their lead further during their next drive when Love connected with Doubs for a 20-yard touchdown, supported by two holding penalties on Sean Murphy-Bunting that impacted Arizona’s defense. The Cardinals compounded their issues by fumbling on three consecutive drives afterward.
Injury Report: For the Cardinals, linebacker Kyzir White (knee), defensive tackle Bilal Nichols (stinger), safety Joey Blount (hamstring), left guard Evan Brown (ankle), and Murphy-Bunting (neck) all went down with injuries, alongside Harrison. The Packers also faced injury setbacks with wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks leaving in the first half due to a shoulder injury and center Josh Myers exiting in the second half.
Looking Ahead: The Cardinals are set to host the Los Angeles Chargers on October 21, while the Packers will welcome the Houston Texans next Sunday.
