HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — In a commanding performance, Xavier Lankford led Alabama A&M to a resounding 56-12 win over Bethune-Cookman, who remains without a victory this season, during Saturday’s match.
Lankford showcased his dual-threat capability by throwing a touchdown pass and rushing for three touchdowns. He propelled Alabama A&M (3-3, 1-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) to an early 14-point lead with short rushing touchdowns in the first and second quarters. Shortly before halftime, Cam’Ron Ransom made a 15-yard touchdown run for Bethune-Cookman (0-6, 0-2), though the Wildcats trailed by eight after the missed extra point attempt.
Continuing the momentum, Lankford connected with DeQuadrion Welch on a 44-yard touchdown pass. Following this, a fumble on the kickoff by Amarie Jones allowed Mohamed Bakayoko to recover the ball at the Wildcats’ 30-yard line. Donovan Eaglin capped off this series with a first-down run, extending Alabama A&M’s lead to 28-6 by halftime.
In the third quarter, both Eaglin and Lankford added more points with short rushing touchdowns, and in the fourth quarter, Ryan Morrow along with Cornelious Brown IV contributed additional touchdowns with their own short runs.
Statistically, Lankford completed 15 of his 24 passes, amassing 315 yards with one interception. On the ground, Eaglin led the charge with 125 yards on 13 attempts, while Morrow recorded 83 yards on 10 carries. Lankford also contributed with 73 yards on 15 carries, and Keenan Hambrick was a standout receiver with four receptions totaling 111 yards.
For Bethune-Cookman, Ransom managed to complete 10 of 21 passes for a total of 105 yards, but the team struggled overall. Alabama A&M dominated the offensive stats with an impressive 701 yards compared to just 181 yards for Bethune-Cookman.
