SPARTANBURG, S.C. — In a compelling clash, Paul Seeley V propelled Wofford to a 31-16 victory against VMI, maintaining the Keydets winless this season. Wofford improved their record to 3-3 overall and 1-2 within the Southern Conference, while VMI fell to 0-6 and 0-2 in conference play.

Wofford quickly established a significant lead, going up 15-0 early in the game. However, VMI mounted a response, scoring 16 unanswered points that began in the second quarter and continued into the fourth. Caden Beck was instrumental for VMI, kicking a 38-yard field goal with just under 13 minutes remaining before halftime. Later, in the third quarter, Shamus Jones made a pivotal play by intercepting Seeley and returning it 41 yards for a touchdown. This brought VMI within striking distance, trailing 15-9 after the extra point attempt was unsuccessful.

Into the fourth quarter, VMI capitalized further by blocking a Wofford punt, with Noel Innocent recovering in the end zone, allowing the Keydets to take a brief 16-15 lead. Still, Seeley, despite throwing three interceptions, composed himself to deliver a record-setting 95-yard touchdown pass to Ricky Shaw II, which would mark the longest touchdown pass in Wofford’s history and re-establish Wofford’s advantage.

Following that pivotal play, Wofford’s defense came through when Javis Mynatt intercepted VMI’s JoJo Crump on the very next possession. This interception set the stage for a methodical seven-play, 34-yard drive that culminated in a touchdown run by J.T. Smith Jr. from four yards out. This final score extended Wofford’s lead to 28-16 with only 1:56 on the clock.

Historically, VMI had been competitive in this rivalry, having won three of the last four matchups, which included a narrow 17-14 victory in their previous encounter in Lexington, Virginia, last year. The series between these two teams began back in 1924, with Wofford now holding a narrow 15-13 advantage overall.
