COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Injured South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers and running back Raheim Sanders are both practicing and improving from ankle injuries as the Gamecocks prepare for No. 12 Mississippi this week.
Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer would not say if either will play Saturday. But Sellers was listed as the starter at quarterback after missing the second half of a loss to LSU and all of the team’s last game with Akron two weeks ago.
“He was good today,” Beamer said of Sellers on Tuesday. “He did everything in practice, for sure.”
Sellers, a redshirt freshman, started South Carolina’s first three games. The Gamecocks were ahead 24-10 on No. 13 LSU when Sellers came out with ankle injury and did not return.
Sellers told Beamer he could play against Akron, but the Gamecocks coach chose to keep him out of the 50-7 victory over the Zips on Sept. 21.
Sellers has thrown for 393 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions this season. He has also rushed for 147 yards and three scores.
Robby Ashford, a transfer from Auburn, took over for Sellers against LSU and started against Akron.
Sanders, a transfer from Arkansas, leads the Gamecocks with 286 yards and four touchdowns.
The Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) will released their SEC-mandated injury report for Ole Miss (4-1, 0-1) on Wednesday.
