Chattanooga’s football team, the Mocs, secured a solid victory against Portland State with a final score of 45-30. Quarterback Chase Artopoeus showcased an impressive performance by throwing four touchdown passes, three of which were caught by Javin Whatley. The Mocs dominated the game by scoring on all four possessions in the first half and three out of four in the second half. The Vikings, on the other hand, struggled to keep up and fell short to the powerful Chattanooga team.
Despite Portland State’s efforts to stay in the game by tying the score at 7-7 and narrowing the gap to 21-14 in the second quarter, Artopoeus and Whatley’s exceptional plays extended Chattanooga’s lead. Artopoeus completed 24 of 32 passes for an impressive 396 yards, with one interception. His successful connections with Whatley included touchdown passes of 13, 28, and 5 yards, as well as a 78-yard reception with Sam Phillips. Phillips, who accumulated 150 yards on five receptions in this game, has now totaled 480 yards in just four games. Whatley also had a standout performance with eight catches for 108 yards, contributing significantly to the team’s success. Additionally, Reggie Davis rushed for 116 yards on 22 carries, adding a touchdown to Chattanooga’s impressive offensive display and accumulating a total of 567 yards for the team.
Portland State’s Dante Chachere made 19 completions out of 30 attempts, accumulating 306 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Chachere also displayed his versatility by scoring two rushing touchdowns. Quincy Craig also stood out for Portland State, rushing for 103 yards and adding a touchdown reception to his performance.
