The Dallas Cowboys continued their dominance over the New York Giants, securing a 20-15 victory on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This marked the seventh consecutive win for the Cowboys over the Giants and their 14th win in the last 15 matchups.
Quarterback Dak Prescott played a significant role in the Cowboys’ victory, throwing two touchdown passes, one of which was to CeeDee Lamb. Prescott connected with running back Rico Dowdle for a 15-yard screen pass touchdown in the first quarter before finding Lamb for a spectacular 55-yard catch-and-run TD. However, Lamb was penalized for taunting after celebrating the touchdown.
Prescott completed 22 of 27 passes for 221 yards, with Lamb amassing 98 yards on seven receptions. Kicker Brandon Aubrey contributed to the Cowboys’ score with field goals from 60 and 40 yards. The win improved the Cowboys’ record to 2-2, addressing concerns following recent losses to New Orleans and Baltimore.
The Giants, now 1-3, relied on kicker Greg Joseph, who made field goals from 52, 41, 38, 22, and 42 yards. Despite dominating time of possession, the Giants struggled to score touchdowns, with their rushing attack stalling against the Cowboys’ defense.
Giants’ quarterback Daniel Jones had an impressive passing performance, completing 29 of 40 passes for 281 yards. He targeted rookie Malik Nabers 12 times for 115 yards and Wan’Dale Robinson 11 times for 71 yards. Despite these efforts, the Giants failed to find the end zone, settling for Joseph’s field goals.
Injuries impacted both teams, with standout players like Micah Parsons for the Cowboys and Nabers for the Giants leaving the game due to injuries. Parsons suffered a leg injury and was carted off in the fourth quarter, while Nabers incurred a concussion late in the game.
Looking ahead, the Cowboys will face the Pittsburgh Steelers in a Sunday night game on October 6, while the Giants will travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks on the same date.
The Giants showed improvement in their competitiveness against the Cowboys compared to last year’s matchups, where they suffered heavy defeats. Despite the loss, the Giants displayed resilience and progression in their performance.
