Philadelphia Flyers prospect goaltender Alexei Kolosov has finally reported to training camp after missing the first week due to undisclosed issues, confirmed by his agent, Dan Milstein. The 22-year-old from Belarus was initially absent due to reasons not revealed to the public, but according to Milstein, all concerns have been addressed and resolved, and Kolosov is now excited to join the team.
Kolosov inked his entry-level contract in July 2023 and participated in two games toward the end of the previous season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the Flyers’ AHL affiliate, before heading back home. As a third-round pick in 2021 and a former standout for Dynamo Minsk in the KHL, he is considered one of the most promising young goaltenders not currently in the NHL.
Flyers general manager Daniel Briere recently emphasized the importance of Kolosov honoring his contract, stating that it was time for the young player to step up. Kolosov is signed for the current season and the next, with a salary structure of $925,000 in the NHL, $80,000 in the AHL, and a signing bonus of $92,500.
Samuel Ersson, who took over as the starting goaltender last season, and Ivan Fedotov, who made the move from Russia to North America last spring, are anticipated to split playing time in Philadelphia. Kolosov is now next in line for a potential call-up from the minor league.
To strengthen their goaltending depth within the organization on Thursday, the Flyers signed Eetu Makiniemi to a one-year contract. The 25-year-old Finnish goaltender had been in camp on a professional tryout agreement.
