NBA star Karl-Anthony Towns, known for his successful career with the Minnesota Timberwolves, is honoring his roots in the Dominican Republic by spearheading the construction of a cutting-edge basketball training facility in Santiago. This facility, set to be completed in 2026, will not only provide top-tier coaching for young athletes but also offer access to physical therapy, classrooms, meeting spaces, and more.

Towns, who was deeply influenced by his late mother Jacqueline Cruz-Towns, who passed away in 2020 due to COVID-19, aims to give back to her homeland, where she instilled in him the values of faith, family, sacrifice, and hard work. Partnering with GO Ministries and World Youth Clubs, Towns is determined to create opportunities for Dominican youth to have access to the resources needed to pursue their dreams in basketball and beyond.

In addition to his personal connection to the Dominican Republic, Towns has represented the country in various international basketball competitions since 2011, showcasing his dedication to both the sport and his heritage. His recent participation in the 2023 World Cup in the Philippines further solidified his commitment to uplifting Dominican athletes.

The basketball facility is part of a larger complex that will include multiple sports fields, outdoor courts, and an educational center. Towns emphasized the importance of creating a safe and nurturing environment for youth who may be facing challenging circumstances, providing them with the opportunity to develop life skills, social skills, and a passion for their chosen pursuits.

By establishing this facility, Towns not only honors his mother’s memory but also creates a lasting impact on the community that shaped him. The project represents a culmination of Towns’ desire to give back to the country that has given him so much and to empower future generations of athletes to pursue their dreams with dedication and determination.
