Will Rogers connected with Denzel Boston for two touchdown passes in the first half, while Jonah Coleman added a rushing touchdown in the second half as Washington defeated Northwestern 24-5 in their Big Ten Conference debut. The Huskies, now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten, bounced back from a previous loss to Washington State with a dominant performance against the Wildcats.
Rogers impressed in the first half, throwing touchdowns of 46 yards and 13 yards to Boston. Coleman contributed with an 8-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, showcasing his skills with a remarkable catch and hurdle over a Northwestern defender.
Rogers completed 20 of 28 passes for 223 yards, with Boston making seven catches for a career-high 121 yards. Northwestern, playing without top running back Cam Porter due to injury, struggled offensively, managing only 59 rushing yards and facing difficulties against Washington’s defensive front.
Despite recovering a fumble and getting a scoring opportunity close to the goal line, Northwestern failed to capitalize, settling for a field goal. The Wildcats encountered further frustration when a long kickoff return was stopped at the Washington 1-yard line, but they were unable to score on multiple attempts, ultimately turning the ball over on downs.
Northwestern finished the game with only 112 total yards, with quarterback Jack Lausch throwing for 53 yards and two interceptions on 8 of 27 passing. Washington’s strong defensive performance continued, limiting Northwestern’s offensive production throughout the game.
Looking ahead, Northwestern will utilize an early bye week to address their offensive challenges before facing Indiana on Oct. 5, while Washington will prepare to face Rutgers next Friday.
