TCU coach, Sonny Dykes, was ejected from the game against SMU after receiving two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties early in the second half. The incident occurred when a kickoff return for a touchdown was nullified due to a holding penalty. Dykes expressed his frustration, leading to another penalty and his automatic ejection from the game.
After the penalties, TCU started from their 10-yard line and managed to gain 22 yards on a pass play. Another penalty followed, resulting in Dykes’ ejection. The coach engaged in a discussion with the referee on the sideline before leaving the field. As he exited, Dykes acknowledged TCU fans by raising his arms in the air.
Dykes had been successful in the past against SMU, winning the last four games between the two teams. However, in this latest matchup, TCU was trailing 41-21 at the time of his ejection. Having previously coached at SMU, Dykes is in his third season with TCU.
Despite this setback, TCU will look to bounce back in their upcoming games without Dykes on the sidelines. The incident marks a rare occurrence in Dykes’ coaching career and adds a dramatic twist to the Dallas-Fort Worth rivalry between the two universities.
