In No. 16 LSU’s 34-17 victory over UCLA, Garrett Nussmeier impresses while Harold Perkins faced an injury

LSU emerged victorious in a 34-17 win against UCLA, led by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier’s impressive performance with 352 passing yards and three touchdowns. However, LSU suffered a setback when linebacker Harold Perkins, a preseason All-America selection, sustained a right knee injury during the fourth quarter, necessitating assistance to leave the field.

LSU maintained a strong lead as Mason Taylor made history with eight catches for 77 yards, becoming the most prolific receiving tight end in LSU’s history with a total of 999 career yards. Nussmeier’s stellar play included a 45-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Parker, contributing to LSU’s third consecutive victory.

Freshman running back Caden Durham and Josh Williams each scored pivotal touchdowns for LSU, securing the win. On the UCLA side, quarterback Ethan Garbers threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns but struggled with turnovers throughout the game, including a lost fumble and an interception.

Despite UCLA putting up a fight in the first half, LSU’s defense, anchored by defensive end Bradyn Swinson’s two sacks, tightened up in the second half. UCLA responded well after a previous loss to Indiana, showcasing resilience despite challenging conditions in south Louisiana.

Looking ahead, UCLA will face No. 9 Oregon in their upcoming game, while LSU is set to host South Alabama before entering a series of matches against SEC opponents.
