General Motors has announced a recall affecting more than 449,000 of its SUVs and pickup trucks due to a potential issue with the electronic brake control module software. This software problem may not activate a warning light in the event of a loss of brake fluid. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed on Friday that the recall pertains to select 2023-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESVs, 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban 1500, 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, and 2023-2024 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL models.
The NHTSA stated that the absence of a warning light could lead to drivers unknowingly operating their vehicles with low brake fluid levels. This scenario could compromise braking performance and heighten the likelihood of an accident. General Motors will be offering a complimentary software update to affected vehicle owners to address this issue. Notification letters are scheduled to be sent out on October 28, informing owners of the recall.
Vehicle owners with the impacted models can reach out to GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 for further assistance with scheduling the necessary software update.
