Tottenham managed to secure a victory in the third round of the English League Cup against Coventry, winning 2-1 with two late goals. Coventry had taken the lead with a goal from Brandon Thomas-Asante in the 63rd minute, but Djed Spence equalized in the 88th minute, and Brennan Johnson scored the winner in stoppage time.
Coventry had previously narrowly missed out on upsetting Manchester United in the FA Cup semifinal last season, losing on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw. The team faced another tough loss against Premier League opponents, Tottenham, after their late resurgence.
Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, praised Coventry for their remarkable performance and acknowledged his team’s perseverance in securing the victory. Meanwhile, Wolverhampton experienced a setback in the competition, losing 3-2 to Brighton and being eliminated.
Brighton took a 2-0 lead with goals from Carlos Baleba and Simon Adingra, but Goncalo Guedes pulled one back for Wolves before halftime. Ferdi Kadioglu extended Brighton’s lead to 3-1 in the 85th minute, with Tommy Doyle scoring a consolation goal for Wolves in the 90th minute.
