Dallas Stars’ top scorer, Jason Robertson, will be absent for a significant portion of training camp due to a recent foot surgery to remove a cyst. However, the forward is anticipated to be fully prepared for the commencement of the season after the procedure. General manager Jim Nill revealed that Robertson underwent cyst removal on July 30. Although present at camp, he has only recently resumed skating independently following a six-week period of being unable to put weight on his foot. It is planned for Robertson to gradually increase his activity level later in camp to ensure proper healing.
The Stars, who reached the Western Conference Final in the last two seasons, are set to commence training camp on Thursday. The team’s first game of the season is scheduled for Oct. 10 against Nashville. Robertson, a crucial player for Dallas, emerged as the top scorer for the team in the past two seasons, notching 80 points in the previous season alone. Throughout his career, he has accumulated 314 points in regular-season games and an additional 38 points in playoff matches.
Despite missing a substantial part of training camp two years ago due to a contract holdout, Robertson swiftly returned to form, scoring 109 points in that season. His absence from camp this year prompted a lighthearted response from Robertson to coach Pete DeBoer, mentioning that a similar situation in the past did not hinder his performance.
Robertson, a 25-year-old California native, has been a pivotal player for the Stars since being drafted in 2017. His absence during camp is a precautionary measure to ensure a complete recovery before the season kicks off.
