Donald Trump is scheduled to bring his message to suburban New York on Wednesday. The Republican presidential nominee and former president will be in Uniondale, Long Island, which is seen as crucial for his party to retain control of the House. With 18 Republicans in congressional districts that Democrat Joe Biden won in 2020, the party is working hard to protect those seats. Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to address the 47th Annual Leadership Conference of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute in Washington. She also has upcoming visits planned for Michigan and Wisconsin.
In a new campaign ad for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, a 22-year-old woman named Hadley Duvall shares her story as an advocate for abortion rights. Duvall reveals she was raped by her stepfather as a child, leading her to become an advocate for Roe v. Wade. The ad features images of Duvall as a child along with her voiceover recounting the trauma she endured. The soundtrack of the ad includes a song by Billie Eilish, who recently endorsed the vice president. The ad aims to shed light on the consequences of restricted access to abortion, particularly for victims of rape and incest.
In northern New Jersey, voters are preparing to participate in a special U.S. House election to fill the vacant seat left by the late Rep. Donald Payne Jr. The election features Democratic Newark City Council President LaMonica McIver and Republican Carmen Bucco, who are vying for the seat in the predominantly Democratic and predominantly Black 10th Congressional District. Governor Phil Murphy called for the special election following Payne’s passing in April. The winner of Wednesday’s election will complete the remainder of Payne’s term until January 3, 2025. Additionally, there will be a regular election to determine who will hold the seat beyond that date, with McIver and Bucco also on the ballot for the full term in the seat, alongside third-party candidates.
