Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has unveiled his family’s new cryptocurrency venture, World Liberty Financial, during an interview on the X social media platform. Trump also addressed the recent apparent assassination attempt against him, sharing that he and a friend heard shots while playing golf. He commended the quick actions of the Secret Service and other individuals involved in apprehending the suspect.
Despite not delving into specifics about World Liberty Financial and its operations, Trump hinted at the platform focusing on borrowing and lending services for trading cryptocurrencies. These digital currencies, which operate independently of traditional banking systems, have gained popularity in recent years.
Following Trump’s remarks, his eldest son, Don Jr., and others spoke about the potential of cryptocurrency as an alternative in a banking system they believe favors liberals. However, concerns have been raised by experts about potential ethical conflicts arising from a presidential candidate launching a business venture during an election campaign.
Trump’s shift in attitude towards cryptocurrency has been notable, having previously expressed skepticism and concerns about unlawful activities facilitated by unregulated crypto assets. Nevertheless, he has now embraced cryptocurrencies and announced that his campaign would accept donations in digital currencies.
While Trump’s pivot towards supporting cryptocurrency has been met with scrutiny, crypto enthusiasts see it as a positive sign for investors if he secures a second term in the White House. In contrast, Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign has not outlined specific policies regarding the regulation of digital assets like cryptocurrencies.
As the election approaches, efforts to engage with crypto investors have been made by Democrats like Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, who participated in an online event titled “Crypto 4 Harris.” Despite these endeavors, Harris and her campaign staff were notably absent from the event.
